There’s a lot to unpack in the Te Kura Ngata-Aerengamate story. It’s not one to be glib about but a couple of things immediately sprung to mind.
This is becoming a recurring theme when you have men coaching in elite female programmes. There was Mark Hager with the Black Sticks women, Andreas Heraf with the Football Ferns and now Glenn Moore with the Black Ferns. All the stories have different facets to them but also this commonality: a perceived lack of empathy from the coach towards some of the players.
Just how rigorous are the screening programmes at these large sporting organisations, and what questions are they asking in the interviews to ascertain how suitable the candidates are for these specific environments?
