I don’t know if my heart can take being a White Ferns fan but today’s carnage in the Caribbean is further evidence that cricket is a crazy sport and that the New Zealanders have found a way to win matches in new and improbable ways. 

For the record, the White Ferns clinched the five-match T20 series in a Super Over bookended by Sophie Devine sixes, which would be exciting enough without everything that happened before, which was everything that could possibly happen in a game of cricket, barring fine leg spontaneously combusting. 

New Zealand scored 111, largely thanks to a considered and controlled, unbeaten 49 from Melie Kerr, but that total had the ghost of David Shepherd up on one leg for the chase and, as we should expect from one of the sport’s great portents, the Windies were about to board the bad omen express, with Sophie Devine at the wheel.
