'I bet an algorithm can be written'
Poll results are in, PLUS: The Week That Was and the Weekend That Will Be
Apologies for the late arrival of the Friday newsletter. Life hack: If somebody asks you to pick them up from Auckland Airport on a Friday afternoon, just say NO! Warning: you might find more than your fair share of errors as I’ve put on the skim-read glasses to crash this out before midnight - sorry in advance. Another quick note, this is the last day to take advantage of the discount for an annual subscription that will give you access to all posts.

Thanks to the hundreds of you who responded to my poll yesterday and helped my understanding of why, perhaps, RWC23 has tripped out of the gates.
Not all of you, obviously, with more than 10 percent saying they were perfectly happy with how things were progressing. I would probably put myself into that category, but after talking to a bunch of codeheads recently who confessed to having barely watched any of the opening weeks, it seemed pertinent to find out why.
Overwhelmingly, the principal reason was the lack of tournament flow, with games restricted largely to weekends.
Wrote Chris: “Surely the format for RWC can be set up so that there is a game or two on every day while still looking after player welfare? I bet an algorithm can be written.”
Jim: “RWC pool rounds should be at least a week shorter, if not two.”
