Notes from Headingley #2
Mitchell's magnificent and Boult's brilliant, but NZ need to call for a spin doctor
NZ 329
ENGLAND 264-6
It is a late and slightly embarrassed edition of The Bounce.
Having watched the extraordinary Daryl Mitchell combine with the tail to slap the Black Caps to a pass-mark first innings total, I settled in to watch an attack I expected to be rejuvenated with the edition of Neil Wagner go about their work.
As it happened, I settled in a little too comfortably. One minute you’re wondering if you should make yourself a strong coffee in the innings break, the next minute it’s 200-odd for 6 and you’ve got no idea how they’ve reached that point.
Quite dramatically as it turns out.
