On a massively frustrating day for New Zealand, Tim Southee hit the high notes and a couple of milestones that are testament not only to his skill, but his availability.

That’s not a backhanded compliment or a veiled swipe at those who have taken the franchise path as their careers wind down. It an overdue acknowledgement that Southee loves nothing more than playing for his country, in all formats, whenever he can - and that means something more than numbers can say.

He can be a frustrating cricketer.
