For those of us in the north it’s been a pretty miserable summer, to the point where after two days of the Basin Reserve test against England many of us would have been happy to have been pitched straight into the middle of winter and to forget this season ever happened.
What has happened in the following eight days of cricket has been remarkable. I wouldn’t go as far as to say restorative, because this still feels like the final flickerings of heat and light in this era of Black Caps’ cricket, but fair play to them for keeping that flame burning… just.
