He played close to 450 games of professional rugby and is now suing World Rugby and the RFU. Hayman, 41, tells Dylan Cleaver his story for the first time.
Great read. The tip of the iceberg I would say. Although I cant see any solutions in such a physical, confrontational sport. There have been obvious efforts taken in recent years with rule changes in the tackle area etc. Hopefully these alleviate some of the issues. Good luck to Carl.
Dylan, is there the possibility of worksafe taking action against New Zealand Rugby for any of this stuff? Is it at all plausible that NZ Rugby didn't know the dangers were so acute when the RFU has since the '70s?

Amazing read Dylan. So important to get this story out. Best wishes to Carl and his whānau and thank you for writing this.
Thanks to both you and Carl for sharing his story. I wish him all the best with his legal action but more luck and strength for his coming years.
