I'm so thankful for the footnote. I've been actively pointing this out ever since the 'seven in a row' line started being trotted out. No matter the comp, the Crusaders entered it and didn't win it so the 7 weren't consecutive.

Not sure why that iteration of the tournament in particular is so derided considering there were several around that time which were heavily affected by COVID and whatnot and also lack a certain legitimacy.

Exactly. It's so conveniently overlooked. Crusaders didn't even make the final.

The winner gets to write history. They also get a much easier ride from their stakeholders. Thing is, Crusaders, that was 2023.

Pleasantly surprised to see the Black Caps punching above their weight in Pakistan. Whether Kane and other members of the old guard hang on for a while longer or not it’s pretty clear we need to bolster the ranks. Great to see Robinson in the runs, he was positively electric in the Super Smash before he got injured and it was desperately disappointing not to see him peddling his wares at the business end. There’s something akin to a young Nathan Astle in him with his willingness to take on the best bowlers in the opposition. Was lucky to see him live a couple of times.

Re: the Crusaders and the media, believe me I’m no paid up member of the fan club, but there’s something a bit unsavoury about some of the media reporting. They’re having a rare bad season and the media are pushing the “fundamentally broken” line. Hilarious coming from the Herald who have had “fundamentally broken” inside the Auckland city limits with the Blues for years on end but were somehow more reluctant to shine the same light on them.
