Carl - AB number 1000. Do I get extra credit for stating that he came on for his debut at the same time as Mark Ranby but was 1000 rather than 1001 because H comes before R in the alphabet?

Carl Hayman was the 1000th All Black. Must have been rather pleasant to be that number in the order!

Regarding CTE and early onset dementia in sportspeople generally, it's frustrating when people will only listen to what they want to hear, and deny all else... Such a common human failing, it's sad to say. Goodonya, Dylan, for keeping the issue at the forefront.

That research feels like a bit of a turning point for understanding CTE. Agree with your thoughts on reducing contact at trainings etc. I also wonder if sports like rugby need to look at speeding up and opening up game play more, to try reduce the current smash and bash approach. Better product and hopefully better for players health.

I wondered if the Irish U19 football team leaving the field for the same reason as the All Whites, later the same afternoon, was in part inspired by what the New Zealanders did. Two isn’t exactly a tsunami of people doing the principled thing but it’s a start. I must have read about or seen so many players/teams say they really wanted to walk off but decided to stay on. Didn’t make any difference whatsoever. Maybe this won’t either but it’s worth a try.

Robinson is doing a great job at appearing to be a pillock.

The idea teams would "quit when they’re behind on the pretext of a racial slur." is the most ridiculous thing I've heard. These are high performance athletes, it's literally their job. So a, its generally in their nature to want to play rather than not play (because again, professional athletes, not 10 yr olds) and b) So what, in the dressing room the captain says 'look team...we're losing, we dont' like losing, so rather than give it a crack next half shall we just say one of us was racially abused? What do you think, lets brainstorm possible options".

People who say this are likely the same ones who say 'if you give people income support they will just no longer want to work'...it ignores reality of the needs and wants of the overwhelming majority.
