Do you read the plot the ball sustack Dylan? There was a good article midweek on potential coming through plunket shield, using a slightly different statistical angle. I'm interested in your thoughts.
Nerd alert!! Regarding the NRL ladder, I am running my own spreadsheet, one which doesn't take into account the two points from the byes. I know it'll all even out by season's end, but it maddens me that it skews things so much mid season. For example, some teams have had two byes, and some have had none. That's up to four points muddling the standings. Disregarding points for the bye I have team 1 on 20 points (Brisbane, no byes yet) and the true team number 11 (cowboys, no byes yet) are actually 14th on the official ladder.
My ladder:
1. Broncos 20 pts
2. Bunnies 18 pts
3= Raiders, panthers 16 pts
5= Sharks, storm, dolphins, warriors 14 pts
9= Eels, roosters, cowboys 12 pts
12= titans, sea eagles, knights, bulldogs 10 pts
16= tigers, dragons 6 pts.
Sorry for wasting your time if you made it this far, though I promise I've wastes more of my life on this project so far than you have and I will continue to do so!
Cheers Dylan. The practice of allocating points seems utterly pointless (pun very much intended), and the cynic in me thinks that the NRL do it deliberately to manufacture artificial closeness in the competition mid season. I know it mightn't necessarily always work out that way, but that's definitely what's going on right now.
