Carl's story is particularly poignant for my son, who played rugby from 11 to 17. He was/is very tall but broad as well. Despite being encouraged to play lock or #8, he always loved scrummaging, at which he was outstanding. As the tallest prop in every game he ever played, his hero naturally was Carl. He followed Carl's every move on the paddock and became a great lineout lifter just like his hero. He played rep rugby on the strength of these 2 abilities alone. He is now devestated by Hayman's recent history. I'm glad my son quit rugby for rowing

Really great insight into the book Dylan. I find this story quite confronting, I’ve never known Carl really well but played a bit of rugby and cricket with him at school. He always struck me as an open, intelligent and empathetic guy as well as a beast of a rugby player, he was big even then but had great ball skills too and scored runaway tries. He seemed close to his family and his Dad coached and was a super positive guy. My thoughts are with Carl and well done on some great writing.

You are an empathetic and sympathetic human being Dylan, as well as a great writer. I’m picking the book up tomorrow and I know it will be a profoundly moving read. Kudos to Carl for telling his story.
