Sitting down to watch black caps bat against Bangladesh. Williamson has just arrived at the wicket. Two gullies in place straight away. Can he put on a better show than last night’s horror against Pakistan? Notable now that the commentators are at least prepared to say he’s “out of form” and point out his weak points even if they’re still saying he’s our best player.

Funny thing about that appointment of Thorburn; he had been hired by the current chairman to find the next CEO for the Same Old’s and ended up by deciding he was the best man for the job and being appointed himself....Chairman next for the chop, he has made an already all time mess, messier and needs to go.

Hmm a big dollop of false equivalence unfortunately. Although the science shows there's a clear link between professional rugby and brain diseases in later life, I don't think the research does clearly demonstrate what is the cause? Is it the way matches are played or training (as inferred in the recent TV programme featuring Thompson and his dementia in his 40s).

Whereas the science around biological males playing contact sport against women it is absolutely clear that you can't balance safety and fairness with "inclusion". Ross Tucker is really good reading/podcast on this if you want to actually understand.

So there's a clear "answer" to the trans issue whereas for rugby in general, what is the solution? I accept doing nothing isn't the answer, but I'm not sure what the answer actually is without fundamental change to the game itself. I've long been in favour of team weight limits to get the average size of players down and to discourage the need to "bulk up".
