What I like about this is the design. Victoria Park is blighted by the flyover, but when the planning for the motorway duplication was underway about 15 years ago there was a concerted effort to avoid making that worse. The original plan was to build an additional flyover, but after push back from the then Regional Council (I think maybe Auckland City as well, but a bit hazy now) a tunnel was built instead. The cricket plan basically eliminates the blight of the flyover (from one side at least) by concealing it behind the stand. To be fair it's not rocket science to take that approach, it's a fairly obvious way to do it, but you don't want to take common sense for granted! There might be a bit of devil in the detail too - will the flyover and/or the tunnel limit what can be done in terms of construction management and engineering of the stand?
Sounds good. A 8-10,000 capacity cricket oval in the city near hospo, transport etc. but re it’s bigger brother next door, forget a 55,000 seat behemoth. How many times a year would it be full? Auck needs a 20k capacity rectangular stadium for the 3 winter codes. Cheaper to run and more atmosphere. No more concrete jungles please!
As I said on radio the other day, we need test cricket back in Auckland.
Great idea. Flick me a text in 10-15 years to see how we're going. No rush.

There are no brainers and then there are no brainers….
Lord’s is home to Marylebone Cricket, not Middlesex
Seems far too common sense to get the backing it needs 🤣🤣🤣

An attractive idea. Just tell me how big those boundaries will be once spectator embankments have been built up
Will the other group looking at the stadium on the eastern side of the CBD, look to do the same thing at the Domain (Hagley Oval style)?
