Whenever I read about Joseph Parker's next fight, I can't help thinking of Martin Snedden's advice four years ago, and his assessment of Parker's abilities and potential.
He should definitely retire now! Amazing fight. Incredible heart from Parker but Joe Joyce was so much better than I gave him credit for. Never stopped coming forward and barely blinked, even when Parker hit him flush. So glad JP wobbled when he stood up after the knockdown. He would have been an absolute sitting duck.
Interesting about the tennis. Based on this many people having an interest how come we see so little reporting of how NZers are doing overseas in the doubles (or maybe I'm not looking in right places)? Also at the risk of being banned from commenting I'd suggest you watch Feds last match. It was sugary once it ended but otherwise it was a reasonably good game with some great rallys and passion.
Ha ha, all comments welcome as long as they're not ad hominem attacks.
To your first point, having briefly and ingloriously been in charge of Herald sports, which included oversight of the analytics, there was just no justification for assigning anybody to cover doubles - even at the ASB Classic - but some of the reporters still would. I'm pretty sure Matt Brown gets NZ doubles players' results into his bulletins whenever possible. The harsh reality of shrinking newsrooms means you can't cover everything as a type of public service, much to the frustration of the 'minor' sports and even some sports that are not minor (basketball, for example). Apart from two weeks of the year, tennis rates very, very lowly, and to be brutally honest even during the ASB Classic, it doesn't rate anywhere near high enough to justify the resource that gets thrown at it, which is why I've always found it one of NZ sport journalism's little curiosities that it's such a fiercely competitive round between those who do cover it.
I did sneak a look here and there at Fed's last match. Couldn't help myself. You're right, it was actually OK, and if anyone deserves a bit of sugar at the end of his career, it's Rog.
