Super Rugby seems to be missing an opportunity with the number of Sundays it misses in a season. A quick scan of the draw suggests they will play 6 Sundays across 14 rounds this year. Often, they will play 4 games on the Saturday when not playing Sunday. Sunday afternoon is a free spot for many of families. time wise which could be filled catching just one game out of Australia or New Zealand.

In the Australian market the two major competitors are playing Thursday through Sunday, so again giving them a free kick in the eyeballs race,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my criticism of your recent comments on last week's Masters Tournament. Yes, I had gathered golf isn't a major mover for you, but that the PGA Tour - Liv Golf interplay attracted your attention. One reason I felt a bit "miffed" was your reference to Rahm's previous displays of frustration on the course. Whilst these now appear in the past, the handicap he has had to play with will be with him for life. And therein lies the real story behind his triumph: https://www.bbc.com/sport/golf/57821828.

Again, thank you.

The other strange thing about the BMac - Bet22 story is tat he, SENZ and the TAB seemed to have formed a very close triangle. Suspect a few words have been had over there.

Huuuuuge congrats on the nomination! Now when I rave on about your newsletters to friends I can say 'award nominated'. As for content suggestions? Slip in 2-3 obscure ultra running references a year and I'll be dead happy...

Thanks Richard. Did you want to connect to chat about Substack? If I have the right person, I’m really sorry but I misplaced your number.

No mention of the Moana Pacifica game this afternoon with a crowd of 20,000 in Apia??

I can’t watch it unfortunately but mentioned it last week. Feels like an important moment in their history and will certainly be more atmospheric than Mt Smart.

Nice work on the newsletter, well deserved DC. Re the afternoon rugby this weekend. Afternoon (3pm Sat & 1pm Sunday) KO’s for the pro’s and community rugby dragged forward to 1130am & 1pm Sat KO’s might see a few more dollars into rugby clubs coffers. Got to find some new ways of making ourselves relevant in a changed environment with ‘time’ and playing numbers the scarcest of commodities for most of us involved at grassroots rugby level. Either that or change our club window to start first week of May and end last week of July with NPC (given it’s semi-pro....) starting mid August (club comps get skewed by players being withdrawn or a swag coming into the union mid season as the coach of the day realises he needs to recruit from outside of the Club competition to be competitive in the NPC - it’s abit of joke really). As an aside (vent) yesterday’s re-scheduled pro game was played against all lower NI community rugby which probably won’t mean much to NZR/SRP’s pro-management (maybe the NZR community manager was peeved?) but it was bloody annoying for some of us who were looking forward to it after battling through our club commitments in the afternoon. We are told it couldn’t helped etc etc but not many of us bothered to believe in that, we just switched to the NRL for the evenings pro entertainment. As an observation, we had one budding rugby pro - a 19yo (out of 44 players) in our premier competition game yesterday (and a crowd of about 200) - don’t see a big nucleus of older pro’s down here in any given team to often anymore, the budding ones yes but they won’t be here long. The removal of the pro’s might actually help all of us at community level survive in the long run as we provide truly amateur and community focused rugby with the best kids from the 1st. XV going into the pro world (academies and on from there) and the rest able to find a job or study and play abit of recreational rugby with their mates at a community club. Jug sculls are still en vogue there!
